Landing in snow-covered Minnesota in high heels and a miniskirt and later drawing attention to the snow-covered car with bright red underwear tied to the antenna? That could also have happened to the clumsy “Bridget Jones”. In “New in Town”, however, Renée Zellweger plays the aloof, tough career woman Lucy Hill. With her luxurious lifestyle, swanky car and designer clothes, Lucy usually resides on the Miami coast - until her job takes her to a small town somewhere in the snowy hinterland of Minnesota. In New Ulm, Lucy is tasked with revamping a yogurt factory. In other words, she has to thin out the workforce considerably. And of course, this not only annoys the startled employees, but also the popular foreman Stu, played by J.K. Simmons (!), and the union leader Ted (Harry Connick Jr.), with whom Lucy clashes more than once. On the other hand, the conservative Christian world view of the locals also causes Lucy a veritable culture shock. Only slowly do things warm up and the initially frosty capitalist begins to question her immoral actions and develop feelings for the quirky locals - as well as for her main antagonist, the attractive Ted. This is a parade role for Renée Zellweger (“Bridget Jones”), who once again puts her foot in her mouth with inimitable flair and demonstrates her outstanding comedic timing.
