Bison - the kings of the primeval forest of Białowieża. Several hundred of the almost extinct animals live here in the wild or the adjacent breeding station. The primeval forest of Białowieża (bia-vo-vié-sha) stretches across a territory of 1,500 square kilometres. On third is in Poland, the other two further East, in Belarus. It is a precious wilderness that has made the news in recent years. For one, Poland under the PiS government cut trees, in spite of the forest's particular significance as a National Park and nature resort. Secondly, it is here that a lot of migrants, ushered in by the Belarusian dictatorship under Alexandr Lukashenka to stir unrest in the European Union, try to cross into Poland illegally. But the film was made before all this turmoil began and introduces us to a wilderness that is precious and is worthy of protection.
